Book and Material Donations

Donate Used Books

We do accept donations of used books, audiobooks, and DVDs. Donations should be clean and in good condition.

We do not accept any of the following:

  • VHS tapes
  • Magazines
  • Textbooks
  • Encyclopedias
  • CDs
  • Records or Vinyl Albums
  • Books with water damage, or other poor conditions

Our staff members will appraise all donated books. Please be aware that books not placed into the libraries’ collections may instead be placed in book sales, the proceeds of which benefit our library.

Please bring donated materials to the library in boxes, during operating hours. Please DO NOT leave donations in book drop or outside the building.

Receipts for tax purposes are available upon request, however we cannot appraise the value of your donation.

Gift/Memorial Book Donations

Summersville Public Library is pleased to accept donations for the purchase of books in memory or in honor of a person or for a specific event.

Donors are encouraged to suggest the type and subject of a book(s) that would be appropriate. Library staff will choose specific titles based on the donor’s request and our existing selection criteria for the collection.

After the memorial book is purchased, the donor will receive a letter acknowledging the donation of the specific book(s). A book plate is placed in the front of each book listing the name of the honored person and the donor.
